Oscar 2014 Best Actress Predictions: Meryl Streep No Longer a Lock?

Meryl Streep is on the verge of not getting nominated for her 18^th Oscar nomination. 

Streep, who has the most Academy Award acting nominations of all time, was once seen as a lock for the Best Actress nomination for her role in "August: Osage County." However, after having lost the Golden Globe for Best Actress Comedy/Musical to Amy Adams, Streep may not make it into the top five Best Actresses on Thursday when the Academy announces its nominations.

The loss is a continuation of the lack of buzz the movie has obtained throughout the awards season. "August: Osage County" obtained mixed reviews and has not landed any major awards nominations. Additionally, Streep has only won one precursor award throughout awards season and lost a nomination for Best Actress at the British Academy Awards to Adams.

One of the other major factors that is hurting Streep's campaign is the fact that the Adams' film "American Hustle" is getting major nominations and has been very popular with awards associations.

Streep may have awards guru Harvey Weinstein backing her campaign but this year the Weinstein Company has had a very tough time throughout the awards season. The Weinstein company is slated to not get a single Best Picture nomination and with its terrible showing at the Golden Globes, the Academy may also not embrace Streep.

Streep has won three Academy Awards during her illustrious career. She has recently appeared in "Hope Springs," "The Iron Lady" and "It's Complicated." She will next be seen in "Into the Woods," "The Giver," and "The Homesman."
