American Cinema Editors Nominees: 'American Hustle,' 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and 'Gravity' Among Nominees

The American Cinema Editors Association has announced the nominations for this year's EDDIE awards.

The ACE votes on two categories and is the most important award for an editor because the editor who wins the ACE will most likely take home the best editing award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Dramatic category saw "12 Years a Slave," "Captain Phillips," "Gravity," "Her," and "Saving Mr. Banks" nominated. The category proved predictable as all five films are slated to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. One of the biggest omissions, however, was "Rush," which has been considered one of the favorites in the category.

In the Comedy or Musical category "American Hustle" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" were joined by "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Nebraska," and "August: Osage County."

The ACE also nominated the Best Editing in an animated film. The three films included in the category were "Despicable Me 2," "Frozen" and "Monsters University."

The editing category is important because no film has ever won the Oscar without being nominated for the category since 1981 when "Ordinary People" won the Oscar. Previous ACE winners include "Argo," "Silver Linings Playbook," "The Social Network," "The Artist," "The Descendants," "The Hurt Locker," "The Hangover," and "Slumdog Millionaire."

Next week the ACE will announce the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honoree and two Career Achievement honorees.

ACE winners will be revealed during the association's annual black-tie awards ceremony on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
