Will 'Inside Llewyn Davis' Get Nomination for Oscar After Guild Absence?

"Inside Llewyn Davis" may be losing steam after missing out on three crucial guild nominations.

The film by Joel and Ethan Coen, which was once seen as a front-runner for the Best Picture, missed nominations at the Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild and Writers Guild. All three nominations are crucial because these organizations include Oscar voters. The last crucial nomination that the film will most likely miss out based on the former results is the Directors Guild.

If this outcome occurs, "Llewyn Davis" will be one step closer to being ignored by the Academy.

"Llewyn Davis" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it won the Grand Prix and immediately became a critical darling. The film won the Gotham Awards and the Toronto Film Critics and has appeared on a number of Top 10 lists.

However, with CBS films distributing it and having no awards expertise, this may affect the film's outcome. Additionally, the dark themes of the movie may dissuade voters who may not be interested in supporting such a depressing film.

Will it miss out on Oscar nominations?

The answer is no. Many Best Picture films have skipped the Guilds. Recent examples include "The Tree of Life," which won a number of critics' organizations and still managed a Best Director and Best Picture nomination. "Atonement" was also ignored even though it won the Golden Globe and the British Academy Awards. Nonetheless the film picked up seven nominations including Best Picture. Other examples include "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" and "Letters from Iwo Jima."

There are still two weeks left until Oscar nominations and many things can still change as ballots start going out.
