The people at Apple are probably having a field day following a court verdict in their favor over Samsung in a patent infringement case, and that excitement will continue with the release of the iPhone 5 in September.

Samsung, currently the leader in the number of smartphones sold, have seen success with their Galaxy S3 device with over 10 million units sold in July, but Apple's projections for the iPhone 5 might break that achievement.

The iPhone 5 launch may be the biggest event in Apple's history and is expected to sell as many as 250 million units during its lifetime, according to FBR Capital analyst Craig Berger, he told Forbes.

But what exactly is featured in the iPhone 5 that has many people ready to line up outside stores ahead of its debut? What are the differences from its predecessor, the iPhone 4s?

Although features for the new Apple device is scarce, leaked information may provide why it's better than the iPhone 4S.

The iLab Factory leaked several photos showing the display and screen of the iPhone 5. The display of the new phone will feature a thinner and lighter device with an aluminum frame. The screen size will grow from 3.5-inches as seen on the iPhone 4S to 4.0-inches for the iPhone 5.

Going to the inside of the device, the operating system is likely to run on the latest iOS 6 and support 4G LTE, according to the International Business Times. The device will feature the same wireless connectivity as its predecessor but the improvement here is it will have Near Field Communication (NFC).

The iPhone 5 will have stronger battery power compared to previous iPhones with eight hours of battery life for 3G users and 14 hours for 2G. Its battery power is expected to have a capacity of 1140mAh, which is 10mAh higher than the iPhone 4S.

Additional features include a 1GB RAM, an eight megapixel rear-facing camera, a two megapixel front-facing camera for an enhanced video chatting.

Security features might include a fingerprint-based system. Apple recently made plans to purchase AuthenTec, a security technology company known to provide its services to the government. Apple will probably provide enhanced security features within the iOS 6's Passbook which stores financial information for digital transactions.

The security features is different from the iPhone 4S as NakedSecurity reported that emails, text messages, and calendar appointments can easily be changed by using Siri without entering the iPhone's password.

A confirmed difference from the two Apple devices is the dock port. The iPhone 4S featured a 30-pin connector but recent reports say it has shrunk to 19-pins. However, latest news say it's a 9-pin connector. As Latinos Post previously reported, Apple plans on introducing a smaller dock when it reveals its upcoming line of products on Sept. 12.

According to iResQ, who also leaked pictures of the new device, "The docking port and headphone jack assembly seemed to fit perfectly inside of the frame. One of our technicians was even able to screw the assembly into the pre-aligned screw holes inside of the frame. All of the threading and screw holes lined up perfectly with the screw holes in the docking port/headphone jack assembly."

The iPhone 5 is expected to launch with preorders on Sept. 12, for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless customers. The latest Apple device is expected to cost up to $800 without a standard two-year contract but can go as low as $199 when signing a contract with the three previously mentioned phone carriers.
