Alliance of Woman Film Critics Winners, Recap: '12 Years of Slave' Wins Best Film

The Alliance of Woman Film Critics have voted "12 Years a Slave" as the Best Film of the year.

The movie also took home Best Director for Steve McQueen. Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong'o won the Best Supporting Actress award as well as the Breakthrough Performance award. John Ridley took home the Best Adapted Screenplay aware for "12 Years a Slave" as well as the Most Unforgettable Moment award for the hanging scene.

Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress award for "Blue Jasmine" while Jared Leto won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Dallas Buyers Club." Matthew McConaughey also took home the Best Actor award for "Dallas Buyers Club."

Meanwhile, "Gravity" won the Best Editing and Best Cinematography for Emanuel Lubezki. Sandra Bullock also won the Actress Defying Age award as well as the Kick A** for Best Female action accolade.

"American Hustle" won the Best Ensemble while Spike Jonze went home with the Original Screenplay award for "Her." The Foreign Film award went to Denmark's "The Hunt." "The Wind Rises" won the Best Animated Film award coming back into the race after losing a number of precursor awards.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" went home with the Best Film Music award for T-Bone Burnett's original music.

The EDA also handed out a number of awards focused on women. "The Counselor" went home with three awards including the Hall Of Shame Award, Actress Most in Need Of A New Agent for Cameron Diaz and the Movie You Wanted To Love But Just Couldn't award.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists was founded in 2006 by Jennifer Merin, Maitland McDonagh, Joanna Langfield and Jenny Halper and supports work by and about women - both in front of and behind the camera.

Previous winners at the awards have included "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Artist" and "The Social Network."
