There's always a relationship casualty every year, which is a sad reality given the dynamics of life in Hollywood and in the spotlight. As such, it can be said that in the entertainment industry it's a matter of who rather than why. 

We've seen a lot of breakups in 2013 but among the romantic splits making the rounds in various entertainment columns, these 5 are the messiest and the scandalous ones so far.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

The coupling of these young lovers was deemed by some as great and by others as odd, especially as the months or years wore on. Selena proved to be a good influence to the teen pop heartthrob as they pretty much stayed within the boundaries of decency while together. When they broke up, it appeared that all hell broke lose as well - at least in Justin's camp. Slowly but surely, the wholesome artist morphed into what many claim as a belligerent, scandal-making, quarrelsome celebrity and showboat of a lothario, ditching his shirt ever so often to show off his torso. Lashing out at love lost?

Meanwhile, Selena transformed into a gyrating singing diva who upgraded her wardrobe with sexier and increasingly risque outfits. It appears she's been trying to make the "Baby" artist see what he's missing. They did try to get back together but Biebs appeared to be enjoying his hedonistic ways too much to settle back into relative decency.

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus

Here's another couple whose post-breakup behavior mirrored our first example. This time, the lady is the one creating a shocking and scandalous image with one questionable public antic after another - even drastically changing her hairstyle and wardrobe. The on-and-off again cycle went on at motion-sickness-inducing intervals, leaving audiences guessing whether they're still together or not. When both parties finally issued an official statement on the end of their engagement, the formerly wholesome Disney star upped the stakes and staged even more controversial stunts (like her "Wrecking Ball" video). Until now, we're still reeling from the after effects of the couple's break up, thanks to Miley's creative expressions of her loss and sadness.

Andrew and Lauren Silverman

Both names don't ring a bell? Maybe this one will: Simon Cowell.

Ms. Silverman, a New York socialite, is the mega producer's baby mama, divorcing her millionaire husband once and for all so she can finally be with her "true love" - yes, Simon. According to the Daily Mail, she had a year-long affair with the British entertainment mogul and later got pregnant while still married. Her ex-husband reportedly "knew what was going on" as well.

Clint and Dina Eastwood

According to MSN Movies, this Hollywood couple's marriage went on the rocks when wife Dina signed up for a reality show, a decision that the action star hubby didn't approve. In the middle of it all, Dina got in touch with Scott Fisher, a high school friend who was divorcing his wife Erica, at the time of their reconnection. Erica told Clint about the suspected adulterous union and ended up being the apple of his eye. Talk about the ultimate partner swap!

Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian

Their estrangement seemed to stretch for ages, thanks to the endless series of strange, cryptic tweets and confessionals (remember THAT caught-on-video rap about cheating, starring the NBA player himself?). This couple showed us how to do divorce the Kardashian way - on TV, in social media, and with public expressions of emotions, thoughts, and sentiments (plus the emotional see saw).
