Barcelona has denied interest in pursuing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Rumors have circulated about the Catalan side looking for offensive help after two straight defeats in the absence of Lionel Messi. However, the club has denied interest in Aguero.
"No, we have had no contact with him," Barcelona vice president Josep Bartmoeu told Mundo Deportivo. "I can say that the story is not true."
Aguero used to play for Atletico Madrid and currently leads City with 10 goals and four assists in 12 Premier League matches this season. In 2012-13, Aguero finished with only 12 goals and two assists in the Premier League and only scored 20 goals in all competitions throughout the season. He already has 21 goals and six assists through 22 games in all competitions in the 2013-14 season and was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or as one of the 24 finalists.
However, it seems unlikely that he leaves. Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini also noted that Aguero was unlikely to leave his club.
"I don't know anything about that. I don't think Sergio wants to leave. That is not a problem for us. I don't believe in that," said Pellegrini.
Barcelona has struggled in the absence of Messi with two straight losses against Ajax Amsterdam and Athletic Bilbao. The team has looked disorganized at the back and has been lacking killer instinct up top. Neymar was brought in to be the man to lead the line in the event that Messi was out for an extended period and has not been able to fulfill this role consistently. The rest of Barcelona's attack, primarily Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, has also struggled.
