Being one of the most popular pop music celebrities on social networks could help Katy Perry achieve a positive change in disadvantaged teenagers and children around the world.

The United Nations revealed on Tuesday, December 3 that the 29-year-old singer has been named as the new UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, a symbolic titled that has moved the singer that knows that this title carried a great commitment.

According to the UN, the pop star accepted the title at a special ceremony at UNICEF's headquarters, where she spoke about actively working with UN campaigns around the world to better the lives of children and teenagers.

With a more sober image than what we're used to, the singer expressed her commitment to the work that she will carry out in her role as UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador.

"I believe that young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help. It's an honor for me to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador and I fully commit to do anything I can to help these children and teenagers from around the world, who all want the same thing: a brilliant future", the singer said at the ceremony.

UNICEF's executive director, Anthony Lake, said that Perry's popularity on social networks could be an important tool so children around the world can be heard through her voice.

"Katy Perry is a defender of childhood and we hope to hear her 'roar' for UNICEF. We're pleased to see her join us as a new Goodwill Ambassador and that she lends us her voice to amplify the voices of children and teenagers around the world", Lake said.
