T-Mobile is reintroducing their unlimited mobile data plan, where you don't get overcharged but your speed gets docked if you go above your plan's original limit.
T-Mobile, the fourth-largest phone carrier in the US, is offering the new deal as perhaps a way to lure customers, or keep customers, from switching carriers as Apple's iPhone 5 is set to debut in September. T-Mobile is the only major phone carrier to not carry any of Apple's devices.
Apple and T-Mobile have been unsuccessful in negotiating a deal to sell their devices to T-Mobile customers.
In a statement issued last year, T-Mobile stated, "T-Mobile thinks the iPhone is a good device and we've expressed our interest to Apple to offer it to our customers. Ultimately, it is Apple's decision"
According to T-Mobile, Apple has not developed a version that works on their 3G and 4G networks, which would therefore "offer an additional compelling option for our customers on a fast 4G network," added T-Mobile.
According to the Wall Street Journal, T-Mobile lost more than one million customers in the first half of 2012, and more than three million since the start of 2011.
The T-Mobile plan starts on Sept. 5, and will cost between $69.99 and $89.00, per month, and based on the type of smartphone you have. Sprint does offer a similar plan, but cost up to $109.99 per month.
The plan is different compared to AT&T and Verizon Wireless as T-Mobile doesn't charge customers for going over their plan's limits, in return, the viewing of large files such as video becomes difficult to browse.
Metro PCS, available in 14 US cities, are also following the unlimited route. Metro PCS will offer a new $55 unlimited plan that includes 4G LTE data and unlimited talk and texting privileges. This new plan is only promotional and pending on how well people take the plan will determine the future of Metro PCS' idea of an unlimited data plan.
