Buyers who opted for the Google Play edition of the HTC One will soon see their decision pay off. KitKat is coming soon, very soon. According to HTC, Google has the code and only needs to make it available and push it out over the air.

HTC USA announced on Twitter that it had finished development of the HTC One Google Play edition Android 4.4 KitKat update, and that it had handed over the code to Google for a release, meaning it should roll out any day now.

It's hard to nail down a time frame for the actual over-the-air rollout given that Google has a lot of KitKat updates to push out. While the search giant has made KitKat for the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 7 LTE tablet (both 2012 and 2013 models) available for manual installation, it still hasn't released them through the airwaves. Add in the fact that Samsung's Galaxy S4 Google Play edition should also be getting KitKat soon, and Google has around four devices it has to upgrade in the coming weeks.

Android 4.4 KitKat will bring a ton of new features to HTC One Google Play edition users, the most noticeable being the new aesthetic. Google has spruced up Android with more vibrant colors than before and integrated Google Now into more phone functions than ever before, including the dialer. For fans of Google Now and voice commands, KitKat is a sure step in the right direction.

The HTC One Google Play edition runs stock Android, straight from Google, and doesn't have HTC's Sense user interface layered on top, allowing it to receive Android updates much quicker than normal HTC Ones.
