The Minnesota Timberwolves will look to sustain their strong start in the 2013-14 NBA season when they take on the struggling Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are off to a good start this season, winning in four of their first six games. They recently snapped a two-game losing skid with a hard-earned 116-108 win at home against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Kevin Love has been sensational for the Timberwolves this season, averaging 27.2 points and 14.7 rebounds. In their win against the Mavericks, the All-Star power forward flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 32 points and 15 rebounds to go along with eight assists.

"I know my teammates look for me so I just want to return the favor," said Love in a statement via NBA.com. "They've been cutting hard, I've been looking for them, finding them, and they've been really contributing on both ends of the floor. I have to pay them back somehow."

Aside from Love, Kevin Martin, who was acquired by the Timberwolves via free agency during the offseason, has been a key figure in Minnesota's early success. The high-scoring guard averaged 23.3 points per game on an impressive 46.7 percent clip from the field.

Los Angeles Lakers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers escaped with a morale-boosting 99-98 win over Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets on Thursday, but they failed to sustain the momentum on Friday.

The Lakers struggled on both ends of the floor in their 96-85 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The Lakers shot just 38.8 percent from the field, while also struggling to slow down Pelicans star Anthony Davis, who torched the Lakers with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks.

Head-to-Head Matchup

Despite their recent struggles, the Lakers are expected to head into the match with supreme confidence, knowing that the Timberwolves have struggled against them in the past seven seasons.

The Timberwolves have yet to defeat the Lakers in almost seven years, losing in their previous 22 meetings. However, Sunday night's showdown will be a different story since the Lakers will still play without superstar guard Kobe Bryant.
