Google revealed Android 4.4 KitKat Thursday, and while the operating system boasts some exciting new features, it can currently only be found on the Google Nexus 5. Luckily, it won't be too long before the HTC One Google Play edition sees the update.

Google announced on the official Android blog that Android 4.4 KitKat will land on the HTC One Google Play edition in the "coming weeks." According to one reliable HTC insider, the firmware is currently undergoing the usual pre-launch testing.

What this means is that HTC One Google Play edition owners can expect to see Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in November, most likely before December hits. Bear in mind this applies only to the Google Play edition of the HTC One, which runs stock Android. The normal HTC One with HTC's Sense user interface layered on top is still in the process of receiving Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Android 4.4 KitKat brings some sweeping changes to the Android operating system. For starters, Google Now has been subtly integrated into more features. Users will be able to find businesses and phone numbers directly from the dialer — a nod from Google that it wants Google Now to win people over and become their intelligent personal assistant.

Android 4.4 KitKat also boasts a cleaner interface, with more attention placed on providing the viewer with as big a viewing angle as possible. Notifications and sidebars have all been modified to seem less intrusive.
