Paloma Noyola, the 12-year-old Mexican student that achieved the highest score in math in the Enlace 2012 test and who is considered by Wired to be "the next Steve Jobs", participated in the Fifth Alberto Coto National Mental Calculus Championship in Mexico City, besieged by the media.

The annual mathematical championship of the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus, gathered 520 students from elementary to high school from throughout the Republic, and consisted only of a 20 minute test.

According to Univisión, Paloma Noyola, born in Matamoros in the state of Tamaulipas, participated in the championship will under the constant siege of the media, and had to be isolated from the rest of the students.

Although the University chose not to comment on her participation, it revealed that the student obtained good results, but was not the best in her category.

Mexican newspaper Excélsior said that Paloma obtained a total score of 1480 in her category, but she needed 1700 points to advance to the final stage of the championship, and was eliminated.

Of the 520 students that participated in the first stage of the champsionship, only 236 advanced to the next stage, reported SDP Noticias.

The organizing University and her professor, Sergio Juárez, said that Paloma was under "great pressure", and that she only had a few days to prepare for the mathematical skills test, unlike other students that had better preparation and for a longer time.
