Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has received rave reviews since its Oct. 29 release, and many fans are hungry for an expanded version of the game via DLC. However, unless you've got a Sony console, it appears you won't be receiving any DLC at all. Despite early reports that the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 would only receive exclusive DLC for six months, a new report from Eurogamer indicates the content will remain a Sony exclusive forever.

The DLC content is set to star the main character of the PlayStation Vita game Assassin's Creed: Liberation, Aveline de Grandpré. This DLC will give PlayStation 3 and 4 owners an additional hour of content in the form of three bonus missions. This missions are set after the events of Liberation, and it is unclear if and how the DLC will tie into the story of Assassin's Creed 4.

Originally, some publications and fans reported the content would be exclusive to the Sony consoles only for a period of six months, due to some fine print in a promotional video released by Sony. This gave owners of other consoles and platforms hope that this content would eventually make its way onto Microsoft consoles, the Wii U, or PC after the six months ran out. However, Ubisoft has since stated that these DLC missions will remain exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and 4 even after the DLC has been available for six months.

This announcement makes sense, considering the content of the DLC and the origin of the character Aveline de Grandpré. The heroine of the DLC continues the story of a character that appeared exclusively on the PlayStation Vita, so porting the content to the Xbox One or PC would leave many gamers confused about the origin of the character and how she ties into the series. After all, seeing her story potentially conclude after an hour of DLC attached to a different protagonist's game may not resonate with owners of non-Sony platforms since they never got the chance to play her spin-off title.

In any case, there will be other DLC for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag besides the Sony-exclusive content. Look out for more Assassin's Creed 4 DLC news right here as the game comes to the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.
