This weekend, one Texas rodeo clown became part of an act he didn’t sign up for. Casey Wagner, 31, was forced to spend the night in a hospital after being struck by lightning twice during the “Rednecks with Paychecks” event in Saint Jo, 85 miles northwest of Dallas, Texas.
Wagner, an off-road racing enthusiast, was waiting out a storm near a tree before being struck twice by lightning, the NY Daily News reports. According to KTVT-TV, Wagner fell to his knees before being struck by lightning a second time.
“It was like bam-bam; it wasn’t even like a second,” Wagner told the Daily News. “It was like two flashes right beside each other. It was like two shotguns going off.”
The 31-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics and later taken to a hospital. According to the Daily News, Wagner said he couldn’t move or walk after the lightning strikes.
While at the hospital, Wagner’s doctors took several blood samples and monitored his heart rate, he told reporters. The Associated Press reports that Wagner said doctors told him that he would have a tingling feeling for around a week.
“I am still shaky,” he told the Daily News. “All my muscles are completely sore. You know when your arm falls asleep? My whole body feels that way.”
Wagner told KTVT-TV that he believes God saved him and that he plans to attend church more.
According to the National Weather Service, the odds of getting struck by lightning in a lifetime are close to 1 in 6,250.
