Apple's iPad continued to make its presence known as a new report showed the Cupertino-based tablet generating most of the web traffic in North America.

According to Chitika Insights, the overall iPad accounted for 81 percent of all tablet Web traffic in North America during the third quarter of 2013.

Despite the high percentage for Apple, the latest tablet market share figure is three percentage points lower compared to Chitika Insights' June statistics.

The second most utilized tablet comes from the Amazon Kindle Fire brand. The Kindle Fire did place 74.3 percentage points lower than Apple as the Amazon tablets accounted for 6.7 percent.

The Samsung Galaxy tablets garnered third place with 5.1 percentage points during the third quarter while the Google Nexus tablets placed fourth at 1.6 percent.

Rounding up the top five is the Barnes and Nobile's Book with 1.1 percent.

The Microsoft Surface tablets did manage to secure a spot on the Chitika Insights overall tablet usage market share charts with one percentage point, which was enough for sixth place.

Chitika Insights was able to determine their tablet usage figures by sampling tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian tablet online ad impressions running on the Chitika Ad Network. The data used in the latest report were collected between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21.

"While the iPad commands a great deal of attention from marketers, overall tablet market growth has led to Android tablets slowly becoming a more attractive target due to their growing presence in the overall computing landscape," noted Chitika Insights.
