'Thor: The Dark World' Review Roundup: Mixed Reception to the Second Installment

The first reviews for "Thor: The Dark World" have elicited mixed reactions.

Starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, the film tells the story of the Marvel superhero Thor who must embark on his most perilous and personal journey when he is faced with an enemy that Odin and Asgard cannot withstand. Through his journey he will reunite with the love of his life Jane Foster.

The film recently premiered to mixed reviews with Tim Roby from the Daily Telegraph giving it two stars out of five and stating "It feels entirely made by committee - the definition of house style, without a personal stamp in sight."

Oliver Lyttelon from the Playlist gave the movie a C and wrote, "While enjoyable in spots, 'The Dark World' is haphazard and ultimately unsatisfying."

Leslie Felperin from the Hollywood Reporter wrote, "Too much hammer time, not enough fun, except when Loki's onscreen."

However, there were many who enjoyed the film, including Variety. Justin Chang from the trade magazine wrote, "This robust, impersonal visual-effects showpiece proves buoyant and unpretentious enough to offset its stew of otherwise derivative fantasy/action elements."

Alonso Duralde from the Wrap also enjoyed the film and wrote, "'Thor: The Dark World' delivers the goods - action, otherworldly grandiosity, romance, humor - above and beyond its predecessor."

The first installment opened to good reviews and received a 77 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also did well at the box office and grossed $181 million domestically and $450 million worldwide.

"Thor: The Dark" world also stars Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba. Disney is slated to release the movie on Nov. 8 in wide-release.
