A character is returning to rejoin the clandestine drama on FX's "The Americans." TVLine confirms that Margo Martindale is returning as Claudia, Elizabeth and Philip's KGB handler, in season two.

"Sources say this intel is very strong," executive producer Joel Fields laughingly confirmed to TVLine, adding, "She'll be back for at least one episode."

Martindale got a 2013 Emmy nod for her role as Claudia. She will be juggling her role on "The Americans" with her starring role in CBS' new comedy "The Millers."

Additionally, Alison Wright, who plays Clark's bride, was promoted to a series regular, as well as Annet Mahendru, who plays triple agent Nina.

"Annet Mahendru has been a revelation as Nina, bringing the character to life with a rich and subtle depth that keeps you guessing as to what's really percolating under the surface," executive producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields shared in a statement. "And Alison Wright's portrayal of Martha is heartbreakingly real at every turn. We are thrilled to add them to our outstanding company of actors."

"The Americans" is a Cold-War era drama about the marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans who are living in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. shortly after the election of President Ronald Reagan. The marriage of Philip, played by Matthew Rhys, and Elizabeth Jennings, portrayed by Keri Russell, was arranged. They have two children, 13-year-old Paige (Holly Taylor) and 10-year-old Henry (Keidrich Sellati), who know nothing about who their parents' true identities.

Although the couple's marriage was arranged, it becomes more real each passing day as they grow to love one another. However, their relationship is constantly under threat by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate and often darkly comical relationships they must maintain with a network of informants and spies.

Complicating things further is Philip's growing appreciation for American values and ways of life. The plot becomes even more complex when a new neighbor arrives, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), who is an FBI agent. Stan and his partner, Agent Chris Amador (Maximiliano Hernández), are part of a new division of counterintelligence who are tasked with fighting against foreign spies on U.S. soil, including KGB Directorate S illegals, or Russian spies posing as Americans.

"The Americans" returns to FX in January 2014.
