A six-year-old lost his life when he drowned in a pool of a Caribbean cruise, when the ship was heading back to the U.S.

According to information published by CNN, Miami-Dade Police informed that 6-year-old Qwentyn Hunter, a resident of Winter Garden, Florida, was playing in the cruise's pool with his 10-year-old brother when he drowned. Some passengers tried to revive the minor with CPR, but the minor was declared dead shortly after.

The unfortunate accident took place when the cruise, the Carnival Victory, was returning to the U.S. after its four-day trip through the Caribbean.

According to the testimony of Deshaun Christian, one of the passengers interviewed by CNN, a DJ noticed that the six-year-old child was trying to exit the pool, and immediately stopped the music. Although one of the crew members jumped into the pool to rescue the child, attempts to revive him failed and he lost his life.

Although for the moment the death of the minor is considered to be an accident, Miami-Dade authorities are carrying out an investigation to determine what caused the accident.

Cruise spokesmen made a press release on Monday, October 14 in which they regret the fact and highlight that the minor was in the company of a family member. "Carnival extends condolences to the family in these difficult times. Our CareTeam is offering support and assistance to the family", is a statement that can be read in the press release quoted by Univisión.

According to the same source, the presence of life guards in these cruises is not common, since children younger than 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult family member.
