Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD owners were thrown for a loop recently when Motorola revealed that it might not update the device past Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean anymore. Luckily, it looks like the company might be reconsidering a new Android update for the smartphone.

Motorola changed its device upgrade page to read "Android 4.1.2 is the end of the line for the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD" over the weekend, setting off reports that the Google-owned company was calling it quits on the device. Currently, however, it seems that Motorola has changed its device upgrade page again to read "Stay tuned for an upgrade decision" concerning the Droid RAZR Maxx HD. The Droid RAZR Maxx option reads "This device will remain on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)."

Bear in mind this is not an official confirmation from Motorola that the Droid RAZR Maxx HD will get an Android upgrade. There was some hope that Motorola might be gearing up an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update when the company sent out invitations for a soak test, but it looks like that was only for a couple minor changes Verizon wanted to make. In fact, neither Motorola nor Verizon have made any recent official comments regarding a Droid RAZR Maxx or Droid RAZR Maxx HD update.

It's highly likely that Motorola changed its webpage to a more user-friendly comment after the backlash that arose when it became known the manufacturer might be dropping support for the device. HTC faced a similar angry public after announcing it wouldn't update the HTC One S, and in a market where top-tier smartphone manufacturers are doing their best to keep their devices at the cusp of Android software, Motorola needs to do everything it can to retain customers, especially given Samsung's aggressive dominance.
