Sony Xperia SP owners rejoice: it looks like Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is coming your way. Not only that, it could land before 2013 is over.

French wireless carrier Free Mobile recently refreshed its Sony Mobile update page, stating the Sony Xperia SP would receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean during December. No exact release date has been given, but it's safe to say if this is accurate and timelines hold, Xperia SPs around the world should begin to see the first tricklings of Android 4.3 before the year ends.

Android 4.3 Jelly is not a major overhaul, but it will bump Xperia SPs up from Android 4.1.2. Several new functions have been added to quick swipe features, and much of Android 4.3's improvements lie under the hood. Security and performance improvements aside, Android 4.3 also brings upgraded graphics support as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Sony is rumored to be gearing up a new smartwatch release for the first half of 2014, and if it's anything like the Galaxy Gear (which requires Bluetooth 4.0 for full integration), this could be a sign that manufacturers are attempting to ready their lineups for new wearable computing.

Sony has not officially confirmed the Xperia SP Android 4.3 update release time frame, so exercise caution when accepting this date as concrete.

Sony announced earlier this year that it would be launching an aggressive campaign to update its devices to Android 4.3. No specifics were given, and many release time frames for many Sony products are still up in the air, but if Free Mobile is right, then expect a lot of Xperia handsets to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in the coming months.
