Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 smartphone has barely begun releasing in the United States, but the South Korean electronics manufacturer is already rolling out an update for international versions that hit retail shelves earlier. A new firmware is available for download, and while it's not anything major, it is the first update released for the Galaxy Note 3.
As of now, it seems that the update, firmware XXUBMJ1, is available in countries such as France and Russia. The update is being pushed out over the air, but as usual, this means not everybody will get it at the same time due to the staggered nature of over-the-air rollouts. More countries can expect this update to hit, although it's still unclear what exactly the firmware entails.
While there is no official changelog, website SamMobile speculates that the update could possibly fix some camera issues, such as the long processing times plaguing the Galaxy Note 3 when taking photos. There are probably some other security and performance enhancements thrown in, although we'll have to wait for more users to dissect the upgrade before being able to tell what's exactly inside.
The update won't change the Android version that the Galaxy Note 3 runs, and the phablet will still have Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which is the latest Android (barring the minor Android 4.3.1 that just released for Google's Nexus 7 tablet). The next major update for the Galaxy Note 3 will most likely be Android 4.4 KitKat, which is expected to be revealed by Google sometime in October alongside a new Nexus 5 smartphone.
