Formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, Chad Johnson has been facing a turbulent week following head-butting his wife.
Just married a month ago with the football player, Evelyn Lozada accused him of assault and Johnson was charged with a misdemeanor domestic battery. He was released from jailed on a $2,500 bond on Sunday.
Lozada, who appears on the VH1 reality show Basketball Wives was scheduled to debut in a new show with Johnson on the network, titled Ev and Ocho. The network has decided to pull the plug stating "the seriousness of the allegations" against Johnson.
Ev and Ocho chronicle the relationship of Lozada and Johnson leading up to their wedding.
Speaking to TMZ, Lozada said she became scared of Johnson's rage following an argument that she stayed at a neighbor's house "to get away from Johnson."
"It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well," said Lozada to TMZ.
According to Fox News Latino, the conflict between the pair stemmed from Lozada finding a receipt for a box of condoms in his car. Lozada would allegedly confront Johnson about the condoms which resulted in him "cursing and yelling" at her.
Johnson has had a bumpy football career lately. After leaving the New England Patriots in 2011, Johnson was contracted with the Miami Dolphins, but a day after the his arrest, he was cut from the team.
According to ESPN, Dolphins Coach Joe Philbin said, "With any type of these decisions, it was not an easy one. It was not reactive nor was it based on one single incident."
However, Philbin noted his release was because he didn't "fit" with the team, not necessarily the abuse charges.
"It's more about the fit; in my gut I didn't think the fit was going to be beneficial to either party moving forward, whether in the short-term or the long-term. That's really what it was all about. It wasn't about one specific thing; it just wasn't going to work," said Philbin.
