HTC Ones in the United States are slated to get an imminent update to Android 4.3 from the Taiwanese manufacturer, and while most carriers have been mum, Verizon Wireless has released an over-the-air update that gives One owners a couple of improvements ahead of the big bump.
Big Red, often known for being the last major U.S. wireless carrier to update its Android smartphones despite being the largest network in America, has just pushed out software build 1.10.605.10 that will bring some improvements to the aluminum-cased handset.
According to the official Verizon changelog, the update includes three major improvements. First off, "device lock ups have been reduced." Second, "Internet accessibility for the visually impaired is now supported." And last but not least, there's an "update to ISIS Mobile Wallet."
The update is a mere 33MB, but Verizon HTC One owners will still benefit from having their handsets charged and tethered to Wi-Fi. As with all over-the-air updates, it won't hit all Verizon HTC Ones at the same time, and there's bound to be some who get it before others.
It shouldn't be too long before U.S. HTC Ones receive the much-anticipated Android 4.3 update in the coming weeks. It was originally scheduled for an end-of-September release, but according to HTC president Jason Mackenzie, the U.S. rollout could end up rolling out a little later due to slight delays in the carrier approval process. The Taiwanese, Developer Edition and unlocked model of the HTC One have all already received Android 4.3.
The update in the United States will not include a new Sense. Instead, international users will get Android 4.3 with Sense 5.5 around November, with the United States and early recipients of Android 4.3 (without Sense 5.5) getting Sense 5.5 in a later separate update.
