The overnight success of Netflix’s most recent original series, “Orange Is the New Black,” has ranked the series among the top dogs of 2013. Netflix has experienced similar results with previous series such as “House of Cards” and the fourth season of “Arrested Development,” but upon the public’s overwhelming approval of “Orange Is the New Black,” is has established itself as a powerhouse among television networks. Naturally, as second season is already in the early stages of production, however, a dark cloud looms over the show’s return.

Earlier this summer, rumors surfaced that Laura Prepon, who plays Piper’s co-defendant/lesbian lover inside the woman’s penitentiary where the show takes place, would not return for a second season. Fans were devastated. She plays a pivotal role in the wild drama that threatens to crumble the concrete walls that contain it. What will the show be without her? Why did Prepon decide to leave in the wake of the show’s monster success? Fans have been left to anxiously ponder these questions all summer long, but finally, after months of tears and anguish, the actress has broken her silence and addressed her decision to leave.

During a red carpet interview with Variety, Prepon praised the show and surprised fans by confirming that she would return for Season 2. In what capacity, however, remains unclear. She could appear in every episode as the show plays with her unstable relationship with Piper, or she could stick around for one or two to close out her character.

“It depends. Scheduling is kind of intense,” Prepon said, “But I”m definitely coming back for the second season. I love the show and my character is a bad ass. [Series creator] Jenji Kohan, I love her, and all my girls, I miss them so much. I’m definitely going back.”

Music to fans ears. But the real issue surrounding her return, the longevity of her stay, remains unknown. Fans will just have to wait and see for themselves.
