An incredible story surprised Boston citizens when a homeless man delivered to local authorities a backpack he found filled with over $40,000.

According to The Boston Magazine, Glen James, a homeless man, found on Saturday, Sept. 14, a backpack with $40,000 in traveler's checks, along with a person's passport and $2,400 in cash.

But far from taking the loot for himself, James showed enormous honesty and reported the find to a police officer in the South Bay Mall, where the loss of a backpack with "an important sum of money" had been reported.

For this action, Boston Police have awarded James with an award for his honesty last Monday in a small ceremony presided by Police Department officers.

Besides this award, Glen James is now the proud owner of $97,889 in donations. Diario NY reports that Ethan Whittington, manager of a marketing firm, made an account on gofundme.com in favor of the honest Boston homeless man.

According to the same source, Whittington, 27, a resident of Midlothian, Virginia, has no relation to Glen James. However, the selfless action of the homeless man motivated Whittington to help him.

"The fact that he is in the situation he is in, a homeless person, blew my mind that he could do something like this (giving the backpack back)," declared Whittington, quoted by Diario NY. "It brought me a lot of hope... This is not just to award a great man. I think it's a message to everyone in America. If we all get together and work together for something we can achieve it," he added.

The man assured that the efforts to help James are selfless and are in no way part of a con.
