Oh Dexter. It’s been great. The past eight seasons of mass murders have been wonderful, but it’s time to say goodbye.

Honestly though, it will be difficult to bid farewell to the best serial killer drama of all time this Sunday. It’s been a riveting ride, full of twists and turns that have left fans reeling in the wake of countless bloody killings and an intriguing protagonist unlike any other known to television. But all good things must come to an end, and for those of you who want to catch an early glimpse of the shining light at the end of the tunnel, Showtime has unveiled the new promo for the series finale of “Dexter.”

The sneak peek teases a finale fitting to the “Dexter” saga. It features plenty of gritty blood soaked images. Police escort a bloody child, Saxon claims another victim and Debra holds back tears as she speaks to Dexter while strapped to a hospital bed. Uh oh.

Debra confesses to Quinn that she deserves to get shot and that she’s done something of which she’s not proud. but Quinn coddles her and assures her that she can make everything right. Dexter shoulders similar sentiments, realizing that he’s the root of all bad things that have happened to his sister. Check out the promo for yourself below.

Major Spoilers ahead…

Although rumors have hinted at Dexter’s death, fans can rest easy. He makes it out alive. It does, however, come with a price: Deb. Her death leads Dexter to quit his life as a serial killer and move away with Hannah and Harrison. And who takes Dexter’s place? None other than Quinn.

For those interested in the fine details, once Dexter reveals his secret to Quinn, who had an inkling of his doings all along, Quinn goes to murder Saxon for mindlessly killing Deb. As Quinn kills Saxon, Dexter watches as Deb flatlines in the hospital during surgery. Talk about a dramatic ending.

The series finale of “Dexter” air Sunday night, September 22, on Showtime.
