Pokémon X and Y News Update 2013: New Poodle Pokémon Guarded Kalos King; Gotta Catch 'Em All Sweepstakes Launch, Prizes Announced [Video]

Prepare to get happy Pokémon fans. A new Poodle Pokémon will make its debut in "Pokémon X and Y" and the franchise has launched a U.S.-exclusive treasure hunt contest.

The Pokémon franchise launched the "Gotta Catch 'Em All Hunt Sweepstakes" on Sept. 16.

The sweepstakes, open to residents across the 50 U.S. states, D.C., American Samoa, Guam, Marianas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, features contests asking viewers to follow instructions and links in order to watch a video. The video will feature a registration code, which the player must submit into the sweepstakes website.

With the launch of the contest, a free code was revealed as "XY738A," which equates to one entry in the weekly drawing.

Prizes during the sweepstakes range from a Nintendo 3DS console, Pokémon Trading Card and Figure Box, and the "Pokémon X and Y" download code, to name a few.

Upon entering the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" website, a description reads:

"The hunt is on. Collect codes for a chance to win exciting Pokémon prizes. From now until October 12, we'll be hiding secret codes all over the web. When you find one, enter it below to unlock a Poké Ball. Inside every Poké Ball is a Pokémon, a digital gift, and a chance to win. Keep checking back or follow us on Facebook and Twitter for tips on how to find the latest hidden codes."

A video was released to coincide with the first day of the contest titled "'Catchatronic' -- Pokémon 'Gotta Catch ‛Em All' Mix," (see below) and features the code "XY1012."

The sweepstakes ends on Oct. 12, which coincides with the worldwide launch date of "Pokémon X and Y."

With the new video game, a new Pokémon has been confirmed with Normal-type Furfrou. The Poodle Pokémon can be groomed into different appearances.

"Players will be alerted to Furfrou's grooming schedule, and if it's left untended, its fur will grow long and shaggy, returning to Furfrou's original look," noted The Pokémon Company International.

Furfrou is touted as an intelligent Pokémon and is said to have guarded the king of the Kalos region. Although it is a Normal-type, Furfrou can learn the Fairy-type move Baby-Doll Eyes, which allows the gamer to go first and lower the opponent's Attack stat.

The "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" video games will be released in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia on Oct. 12 for the Nintendo 3DS and the new Nintendo 2DS. The games have a suggested retail price of $39.99, each.
