Paramount Pictures has changed the date to the upcoming Terminator film.

The studio announced on Monday that the Terminator reboot would be released on July 1 instead its original date of June 26. The new date will put the film up against "Independence Day 2," which will be released two days later.

Along with the date change, Paramount announced the "Transformers 4" release date and also noted that the upcoming Oscar contender "Nebraska" would also get a date switch.

The announcement was the third major change in the 2015 summer lineup. Previously, Disney announced that it would release Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" in the summer instead of its original November release. In addition the studio announced that it would take "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" off the release schedule due to production delays.

"Terminator 5" is one of the major franchise films that is scheduled for 2015. Along with that film, "Star Wars: Episode VII," "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Jurassic World" and "The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2" are slated for release.

The first Terminator film was released in 1984 by James Cameron and became one of the most popular action films of its time. The film was followed by the 1991 hit, "Terminator: Judgement Day." The sequel won four Academy Awards and surpassed the popularity of the original. In 2003, Warner Bros. rebooted the franchise with "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." Finally the series had its fourth installment in 2009's "Terminator Salvation," but failed to catch audiences' attentions and was given bad reviews.

The fifth installment marks the first time a Terminator film will be distributed by Paramount. Previously Warner Bros. and TriStar were in charge of the franchise. The film will be produced under Skydance, Annapurna and Paramount Pictures.
