The Amazing Race Latin America will begin Sept. 20, with eleven teams participating and the race broadcast by the Discovery Channel, reported the newspaper El Informador.

Harris Whitbeck, the host of the new season, and directors of the Discovery Channel explained that this would be the first edition made for Latin America.

"Journalism and hosting and two different disciplines but they're equally satisfactory, it's just that in the latter you don't find yourself under firearm fire, but you do find yourself facing human acts of solidarity, battle and resistance," Whitbeck said.

According to the website, Harris, a war correspondent, said that after hosting the show, his attitude towards the show changed because "they're different, but there were latent dangers too, like the time we crossed a river that suddenly grew and we were about to die, not only me but two cameramen, as well."

The show will be broadcast in 13 episodes starting in September until December 2013 and, according to the article, the 11 teams are comprised by contestants that come from seven Latin American countries like Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Colombia and Argentina who will face each other for a $250,000 prize.

Within the broadcasts one can see the physical resistance that the members of the 11 teams have. The informative website points out that the mental strength of every team will also be highlighted in the tests carried out in 20 cities of nine Latin American countries, in beaches, mountains, deserts, urban centers and historical cities.

In the 23 days of tests in "The Amazing Race," senior contestants also participate. Those contenstants, according to the website, serve as an example for the younger contestants who may fill with doubts as the race goes on.

According to Yahoo, "The Amazing Race," created by Elise Doganieri and Bertam van Munster and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, and will be hosted by model María Victoria "La Toya" Montoya in its Latin American version.
