On August 9, USA overtook China to claim the top spot in the Olympics Medal count for the total number of golds and total number of medals overall.

Throughout most of the Olympics, China was seen ahead of the U.S. in the gold medals count while the lead for most medals overall was observed to change rather frequently.

However, two weeks after the Olympics officially started USA is now on top and the difference may very well suggest that it'll remain like that until the closing ceremony marks the end of the games this coming Sunday.

USA raked in numerous gold medals on Thursday including the gold medal against Japan in Women's soccer and Women's water polo that finally lifted the nation past China

In total, USA scooped five gold medals, three silvers and one bronze compared to China who scooped one gold in diving, one silver in boxing and another silver in taekwondo.

With only three days remaining in the Olympics USA will probably snatch golds in various other events such as Men's Basketball, Men's Volleyball, Women's Volleyball. China on the other hand will obtain golds in events that remain such as the Men's 10m Platform Diving and Men's Fly Weight Boxing.

However with many events still remaining only time will tell who finishes atop the medal table.
