Heartbreak is a staple of our everyday lives. Although some may be worse than other, sucking your soul from the deep corners of your heart, we experience bits of heartbreak everyday. Whether the deli got your lunch order wrong or your office crush calls out sick. We’ve become numb to it. We expect it. It’s life. So while devastating, the recent news concerning Laura Prepon and her role on “Orange Is the New Black” doesn’t come as much surprise.

The actress, who plays Alex, Piper’s co-defendant and lesbian inmate flame, will not fulfill a recurring role in the upcoming second season of the Netflix hit series. Fans have speculated on how the show will wrap up Alex’s storyline, which, according to Buzzfeed, will be unfortunately quick and seamless.

For those hoping for a dramatic, drawn out conclusion between Piper and Alex, you’re out of luck. Prepon will appear in only one Season 2 episode before she leaves for good, leaving little time for an extravagant exit.

Prepon originally signed a one-season contract, but despite the show’s massive success, she’s decided to move on. Heartbreak strikes once again, but it’s what we’ve all come to expect in this sad, waking life.

However, remember that with every tragedy there's a silver lining. Her departure would make room for new characters and new relationships, and to that tune, TVLine confirms that Netflix is casting an older sister for Yael Stone's Bostonian inmate Lorna. Francine, who's described as "a little rough around the edges, which could be said for every inmate locked behind bars, has moved back into her and Lorna's childhood home with their siblings, incompetent parents and her own three kids.

As the Prepon plot unfolds, more information regarding the show's recovery from the potential loss will help ail the crippling blow. The future is bright for the hit Netflix series, which will return in 2014.
