There are only two left. After eight riveting seasons, there are only two episodes left. Fans are dismayed, devastated. To them, the loss is incomprehensible. It’s not real, or at least not yet. They still have two weeks to speculate on the series’ conclusion, keeping their fingers crossed for good news while responsibly preparing for the worst. You can’t always expect a happy ending, especially in a television drama based on a serial killer.

“When you examine any serial killer, there are only so many endings you can have - and serial killers don’t generally end on a happy note,” said executive producer Scott Buck, and early rumors fortify his claims.

According to a Reddit leak that describes the series finale, the story ends in tragedy. There are no ringing bells or sunny days. It’s “Dexter.” Instead, fans should prepare for bloody sheets and long winded goodbyes.

In this week’s episode, titled “Monkey In a Box,” Deter will be torn between fleeing the country with Hannah and Harrison or killing Saxon once and for all. At Dr. Vogel’s funeral, Saxon attempts to take Dexter out, but his efforts are thwarted when Deb intervenes. Dexter and Deb tie him up and leave him for Miami police. Meanwhile, Dexter continues to prepare for his alleged trip across seas, but something will get in his way, at least temporarily.

In the official sneak peek video, a frantic Dexter struggles with his current life trajectory. He’s unsure of himself, and it’s breaking him. But then by the end, we see Dexter back in true form, washing blood off his hands.

The next episode of “Dexter,” “Monkey In a Box,” will air on Showtime on September 15.
