That’s it. It is over. Although the subtle graze of summer sunshine still wisps at our skin, the season has turned. No longer will our days be spent counting down the minutes until we’re lying on a tropical beach with cold drinks at our disposal. Vacation has passed, but that’s not to say all is lost. To help ail the woes of the encroaching summer, holidays are strategically placed throughout the autumn months. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more are just around the corner, and to top it all off, so is the return.

As details regarding Season 6 slowly begin to leak ahead of its premiere, fans can catch an early glimpse of a new female character that will come between Castle and Beckett. According to TV Guide, former “House” star Lisa Edelstein begins a three-episode arc as an investigator named Rachel McCord. McCord is connected to Beckett’s job offer in D.C. and will likely come to persuade Beckett out of New York and down to the Capital.

“McCord becomes a mentor to Beckett and doesn’t quite understand why Castle is hanging around,” Edelstein said. “What McCord’s done with her life is really inspiring and tempting to Beckett, but it is also threatening to the way of life Beckett’s chosen so far.”

Edelstein joins “Castle” with a lingering sour taste in her mouth. She refuses to watch the 2012 series finale of “House” that aired one year after she left the show due to unsavory contract negotiations. “I wasn’t happy with how my character ended at all,” she said. “It was a really complicated and upsetting situation, which is why I decided not to do the finale. It was horrible and there was no amount of money that would have made it OK.”

Hopefully she’ll have the chance to overcome her past frustrations and find bliss on “Castle,” which returns to ABC on September 23.
