A regrettable event took place in El Progreso, Honduras when a desperate woman tried to kill her five children with insecticide because she had nothing to feed them.

According to El Nuevo Herald, an Honduran judge has determined to jail the woman, identified as Magda Rodríguez, after she tried to kill her five children aged between one and nine years old, for the second time.

According to preliminary reports, the five children, who are residents of El Progreso, are hospitalized in the emergency room of the region's state hospital, after their mother tried to give them water with Oko, an insecticide used to kill mosquitos and other insects.

"I have never given them anything in my life, I was going to drink the water with the 'Oko' myself, then my children told me, no mom, don't do that, don't leave us alone, no my darlings, then you won't be alone, you're going to die with me because I don't know what to do, I'm desperate," declared Rodríguez, according to Univisión.

For the moment, the woman's legal defense has solicited a psychological evaluation to determine if she suffers from any type of mental disorder, after Judge César Velásquez formally sentenced Rodríguez on Thursday.

The preliminary audience against Rodríguez will take place in a period of six days to determine if the accused will be jailed for the crimes attributed to her. Lionel Díaz, the father of the children, told local media that his neighbors told him that his wife "was trying to kill her children with poison and other things," reported Univisión.

According to Díaz, this is not the first time his wife has tried to murder his children.
