Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are aware of their current situations right now at the U.S. Open Championship.
With both playing terrific tennis through the first week of competition, the Mallorcan Matador and the Swiss Master must conquer their respective opponents to arrange the 32nd confrontations of their legendary careers.
Nadal has been in cruise control in the past three rounds despite missing last year's tourney due to knee injury. The 12-time Grand Slam champion obliterated his opponents with sheer force, toppling down Ryan Harrison, Rogério Dutra da Silva and Ivan Dodig in straight sets. The world's no.2 showcased a variety of shots during his onslaught, but his attack from the baseline made his shots tough to defend.
"I am winning because I am playing well from the baseline and I am making the right decisions in the right moments," Nadal told CBS Sports.
Against Kohlschreiber, Nadal is bringing in a 9-1 head-to-head record, including 6-2, 6-4 mastery over the German in the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year. Then again, Nadal insisted his winning record will not be a reason for him to be complacent against Kohschreiber, who dropped the previously red-hot John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 in their third round clash.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Kohschreiber is looking forward to the challenge of facing Nadal on the hard court (7 p.m EST).
"I'm really looking forward to it," Kohlschreiber told reporters during post-game press conference. "I've had some good matches against him, especially on hard courts. Basically I know a little bit how I have to play. We don't have to say he's in pretty good shape winning almost every match on hard court. So it's going to be really tough, but I'm really looking forward to playing on Ashe. And I'm happy with my performance today. I think I also will play a really good match against him."
Roger Federer is also facing a pretty tough fourth-round contest against fellow ATP veteran Tommy Robredo (2 p.m EST).
The Swiss Master has been undefeated in 10 professional tennis matches against Robredo, who also has a one-handed backhand in his repertoire of shots. It took over two years for these two veterans to meet again on the hard court. The last time it happened, Federer defeated the Spaniard 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2 in the fourth round of the 2011 Australian Open.
Monday's men's singles schedule will also feature fourth round showdown between Richard Gasquet and Milos Raonic (3 p.m EST), and Janko Tipseravic and David Ferrer (1 p.m).
On the women's side, Victoria Azarenka faces former world's no.1 Ana Ivanovic (12:30 p.m EST) while Daniela Hantuchova takes on American Alison Riske (11 a.m. EST). Tennis darling Camila Giorgi will battle compatriot Roberta Vinci (11 a.m. EST) and Simona Halep will play Flavia Penneta (11:00 a.m) for the other spots in the quarterfinal.
