Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, 63, suffered an accident on August 30 when he lost his balance and fell ostentatiously as he tried to walk over rubble during his visit to demolition work in southeast Santiago.

The incident happened when the president, along with Housing Minister Rodrigo Pérez, was inspecting the progress of the demolitions for the Recovery of Social Housing Program in the community of Puente Alto, reported BioBioChile on their website.

When walking over the rubble, the Chilean president slipped and had to be helped up. Despite the dangerous fall, he suffered no serious injuries and took the incident with good humor.

"Fortunately the president is alright, working with strength and enthusiasm, and there are two pains: one physical and one in his soul, because I finally gave you the joy of watching the president fall," Piñera joked with local media, El Tiempo reported.

According to El Diario, Germán Codina, mayor of Puente Alto, explained to CNN Chile that President Piñera "got off easy" and that fortunately there is nothing to grieve. "They are funny anecdotes, but thank God it wasn't a bigger accident," Codina said. "All of us that know the President (...) know how active he is, know that he likes to present at all times," he added

Others that have taken the news with good humor have been the users of social media, who just a mere hours after the incident flooded the Internet with edited images of the funny event.
