His endless obsession with swimming has tragically come to an end. Watch him one last time in this video.

It seems that New York's Neurotic Polar bear is finally getting a rest. Gus, the polar bear from Central Park Zoo was euthanized after the discovery of a large, inoperable tumor in his thyroid region.

A report from ABC News says that the 27-year old polar bear was having feeding difficulties. His appetite was reportedly low and also had trouble swallowing and chewing his food.

The famous polar bear gained publicity when he was first diagnosed to be "neurotic" - swimming endlessly and tirelessly across the pool. Veterinarians say he was "bored."

"Gus was an icon at the Central Park Zoo and a great source of joy for our visitors and staff. He was an important ambassador for his species bringing attention to the problems these bears face in the wild due to a changing environment," said Jim Breheny, WCS Executive Vice President of Zoos and Aquarium in a report by ABC News.

Aside from being a great source of joy for zoo visitors and being an ambassador for polar bears far and wide, Gus also served as an inspiration for a song. That's right! Gus is probably the only polar bear with a song entitled Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park by The Tragically Hip.
