Summer is ending. A cool brisk bustle fills the evening air. Vacationers are returning to their mundane jobs, buckling down for the winter months. But while the temperature drops, things in Los Angeles are heating up. “NCIS: LA” is gearing up for its fifth season, and as the premiere approaches, fans anxiously await to learn how detective Deeks will fair. The season 4 finale left him in dire circumstances that will have detrimental effects as the new season unfolds. Perhaps more importantly, however, is his blossoming relationship with Kensi. Luckily, the issue will be addressed season premiere.

According to TV Guide, Kensi will have a hard time staying focused after the two locked lips last season. “He fired something up in her,” said executive producer Shane Brennan. To make matter even more difficult, her first task will be rescuing Deeks from Sidorov

“It’s not just her partner she’s saving; it’s this guy she might have a future with,” said Daniela Ruah, who plays Kensi on the show. Deeks will eventually make it out safe and sound, but he’ll be battling both the traumatizing aftermath of his torture while juggling his feelings for Kensi, which could make things difficult.

“There are changes in these relationships because of these catastrophic events,” said Eric Christian Olen, who plays Deeks. “Kensi and Deeks have one of the most heartbreaking scenes we’ve ever seen them do. It’s one of the few times that Deeks is able to… say exactly what he means.”

In the season premiere alone, the duo will have "the most honest conversation that Deeks and Kensi have ever had," Olsen told TVLine. The episode "picks up exactly where we left off, continuous - [Deeks is] mid-torture, Kensi's in peril... I can't give it away, but even that is 'To Be Continued...'"

“NCIS: LA” will return to CBS September 24.
