Shakeup in Pumas, Garcia Aspe Leaves Team Vice Presidency

Former player Alberto Garcia Aspe has left the vice presidency of the Mexican team Pumas after a series of lackluster results. The team's President Jorge Borja Navarrete removed Aspe from office, who only lasted 15 months in the institution.

Roberto Medina, the club's sports manager will also be leaving the team and it appears that coach Antonio Torres Servin will soon be fired as well. There is talk that coach Ruben Omar Romano will soon be hired as head coach to try and bring better results for Pumas in the current season.

During his brief stint in Pumas, Garcia Aspe appointed three different coaches: Joaquín del Olmo, Mario Carrillo and Antonio Torres Servin. Hiring Carrillo was the most criticized decision he took during his time at the team, especially due to the Carrillo's links to rival team America, the main reason why he was never liked by the college crowd and struggled with several players on the roster.

Carrillo and Joaquin Del Olmo were both fired only after 6 and 8 games respectively.

Aspe also spent large amounts of money trying to bring quality players to the team, among them, Emanuel Villa, Jaime Lozano, Luis Garcia, Martin Romagnoli, Ignacio Gonzalez, Robin Ramirez, Candido Ramirez and Ariel Nahuelpán. Of all the signings, Romagnoli was the only one that took hold in the starting lineup, while others did not play as well as expected.

Another important decision taken by the former vice president was selling sports Pumas Morelos, a subsidiary of the main team, supposedly because it represented a major leak of money to the institution. "When you do your work with full dedication and honesty you can't be wrong We killed ourselves for this institution and the team," he said in an interview.

"We talked this decision out and it was made by mutual agreement, if they believe that someone has to come to do a better job that's fine, no one is above the institution and the results."

As far as results, during the Apertura 2012 and Clausura 2013, Pumas only classified to one playoff, but missed out in the quarterfinals when they lost both games to America.

In the Cup, the team did not advance in either occasion to the final phase. In the afternoon, Pumas announced that Mario Trejo, a man that has helped various struggling teams adjust mid tournament, will replace Garcia Aspe as vice president.
