Actress Salma Hayek Opens Up About Family Life in Paris

More than five years ago Salma Hayek left her comfortable life as a movie star in Hollywood to move to Paris with her husband, French millionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, and their little daughter, Valentina. Hayek opened up to a French magazine about how she never expected to move to Europe and start a new life, a change that was difficult to adjust to at first.

Salma confessed that she felt a great fear before giving up her life in the United States to be with her husband. "At one point I felt I was getting old and that my career was not taking off at all. Besides, I thought I would not find anyone who would be with me unconditionally. And when I thought I had hit bottom, my life changed radically. I built a family and had a beautiful daughter. But I must admit that before moving to Paris I was terrified. I was afraid to leave the life I had built and leave behind all the potentially exciting projects that might come my way. Uncertainty scared me, and especially being so far from home," Hayek said.

Nowadays the Mexican bombshell is very grateful for the radical change that she undertook when she moved to her new home. Hayek was convinced that her acting career would hit a slump as soon as she took up residence in Europe, but her husband encouraged her to go ahead with her big screen projects.

"Nobody has encouraged me as much as François. My parents and friends have supported me, but never as much as he has. He convinced me that I had to find my way. Eventually I learned to take care of my family in the morning and work at night, sometimes very early in the morning," the now 40 year old actress added.

Although her appearances on the big screen have been less numerous in recent years, Salma says she doesn't believe in cosmetic surgery and would rather age gracefully and naturally.

"Physically speaking, I prefer to keep looking like myself instead of looking like someone whose abused botox. I have friends who resorted to surgery when they were between 20 and 40 years old and now they look appalling. I want my face to look beautiful when I'm 70. My mother is a beautiful woman who has never been afraid to grow old, and I think I inherited that from her. Though it is true that we have to make efforts to look well with age," Hayek concluded.
