Amber Alert Expanded to Four States for Missing California Girl as Feds Join Abduction Investigation

Authorities have expanded the Amber Alert issued for a missing California teen and her younger brother over the weekend to encompass four states.

As of Thursday, there are active Amber Alerts in place in California, Nevada, Washington and Oregon as police desperately try to catch up with 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio, who is accused of kidnapping Hannah Anderson, 16, and possibly her 8-year-old brother Ethan as well, KSEE 24 News reports.

Officials issued the first Amber Alert in California for the missing children on Saturday, Aug. 3. It was issued after authorities pulled two dead bodies from DiMaggio's burning home.

One body was identified as Christine Anderson, 44, the mother of the two children. The second body was so badly burned that it was difficult to retrieve a DNA sample. Officials believe that there's a possibility that it is Ethan's body, although it's also possible that DiMaggio snatched Ethan along with his sister and took off with both of them.

According to the Alert, both Hannah and Ethan were abducted by DiMaggio in Boulevard, Calif. DiMaggio is believed to be driving a blue, four-door Nissan Versa, year unknown, license plate number 6WCU986.

DiMaggio is described as a 40-year-old white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5'9" and weighs approximately 150 pounds.

Hannah is 16 years old, white, with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 5'7" and weighs 115 pounds. Her younger brother Ethan is described as a white male, 8-year-old, with sandy brown hair. He is 4'11" tall and weighs 65 pounds.

Authorities in California believe DiMaggio may be headed either to Texas or Canada and ask anyone with any information to call the San Diego Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200.

According to a report from ABC News 10, several FBI agents have been brought in to help California authorities locate the trio by exploring "interstate and international" capabilities, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.

"As we've said all long - he could be in Mexico, he could be in Canada, or he could be a mile away [from where he lived]," Caldwell said.

According to authorities, DiMaggio was a long-time friend of the Anderson family and was so close to the children that they called him "Uncle Jim."

Brett Anderson, Hanna and Ethan's father told reporters that DiMaggio has known Hannah since she was 6 months old and that he is at a loss as to why DiMaggio would commit his alleged crimes.

On Tuesday Brett Anderson addressed DiMaggio through the news media, saying "Jim, I can't fathom what you were thinking. The damage is done. I'm begging you to let my daughter go. You've taken everything else."

Anderson also reached out to his daughter, saying "Hanna, we all love you very much. If you have a chance, you take it. You run. You'll be found."
