People who preorder a PlayStation 4 after August 6 are no longer guaranteed to get the console when it is launched in the UK, which may indicate that the demand for the console is beginning to outweigh what Sony is capable of producing and affect when gamers here in the United States get their hands on the console.

This news comes straight from Sony, who sent a message to ShopTo revealing that they no longer will guarantee that those who preorder the device from here on out in the UK will be able to receive it on the day of the PlayStation 4's launch, which has yet to be determined:

"Sony have confirmed all PlayStation 4 pre-orders placed from 6th August will now not be guaranteed for launch. You can still pre-order PS4 with us in case we receive cancellations and can fulfil your order for launch."

Eurogamer is also reporting that Amazon.com is displaying a similar message on their preorder page for the PlayStation 4 on their UK site:

"Please note - due to high demand, orders placed for the PlayStation 4 console from 6th August may be received after release date. We will ship orders as soon as we receive sufficient inventory."

While this may be affect the supply of day one PlayStation 4's in the UK, there is no indication so far that Sony will have difficulties getting out PlayStation 4's in America on the day it is released. While there has been warnings that preorder supply would outweigh demand for both consoles, it looks as though retailers here in the states are cutting off preorders rather than risk having customers preorder either console only to find out that they may not be able to get one the first day it is released. So far the preorder battle between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One has been fairly neck to neck. No word has come out yet about similar problems with the Xbox One demand.

Neither the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One have a release date set, though Microsoft has promised that their next gen console will be available sometime in November. If Sony is running out of PlayStation 4's two months after making them available for preorder, then that may indicate that the system will be unavailable soon, so gamers interested in securing their own PlayStation 4 are urged to do so as soon as possible wherever the console is still being offered.
