"Avatar 2" may have finally found a writer after months of searching.

The Wrap is reporting that the sequel to the biggest box office hit of all time will be written by Josh Friedman. The publication contacted the writer, but received no response. "Friedman did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and a representative for his agency, UTA, referred TheWrap to director James Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment," wrote The Wrap.

When the publication reached producer John Landau, he responded, "I would not comment on 'Avatar 2' one way or the other way." 20th Century Fox did not comment and has yet to announce news regarding the sequel.

Cameron recently moved to New Zealand and plans on shooting the film there. He also revealed that the release date will be determined once the script is ready.

Friedman has previously worked with Cameron on a spin off for "Terminator." Cameron once entrusted the writer to pen "Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles" and received great reviews. Friedman earned strong mentions as he expanded the "Terminator" mythology. He has also written the scripts to "War of Worlds," "The Black Dahlia," and the story to "Chain Reaction."

The original "Avatar" became the most successful film of all time and launched the 3-D era. The film made $760 million domestically and $2.7 billion worldwide. It was also nominated for nine Academy Awards, and took home three.

Cameron won an Academy Award for his work on the 1997 film "Titanic." He has also directed "Aliens," "The Abyss," "Terminator," "Terminator 2: Judgement Day," and "True Lies."

"Avatar 2" is still scheduled for release for 2015, while "Avatar 3" will be released in 2016. However, the dates may change depending on pre-production.
