Love triangles are always tricky. It's nearly impossible to satisfy all three participants. If it succeeds, you've hit the jackpoint. However, that's rarely the case, as fans of the hit comedy sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" are well aware. Throughout the entire eight seasons, the dynamic between Ted, Barney and Robin has been interesting to say the least. While Barney and Robin are now set to tie the knot in the upcoming ninth and final season, fans are left to wonder how the poor, desperate Ted will fair, especially with the mother now in the mix.

But Robin and Ted advocates are not to worry. As TV Guide reports, there's still plenty of issues that the pair have to sort through before the series' close, some of which will be addressed in the season opener. The episode, titled "The Locket," will examine the curious hand holding between Robin and Ted that occurred in the season 8 finale, but the issue as a whole will not be resolved right off the bat.

"It's a story that will be explored quite a lot and in-depth," said executive producer Pamela Fryman.

While this exploration is sure to tap into the show's more emotional realm, there's plenty of comedy in store for the premiere as well. For starters, fans learned during Comic-Con that the premiere episode will feature a "Game of Thrones" crossover. "We haven't locked the cut yet, but there is a 'Game of Thrones' reference in the season premiere that I hope stays in," said executive producer Craig Thomas. "We reveal that in the same way that Barney is a big fan of Billy Zabka in 'The Karate Kid,' Barney may or may not be a big fan of King Joffrey."

But Barney won't be the only one bringing laughs to the season opener. The episode will introduce a potentially new female character with ties to Marshall. Camille, somewhere between her 30s and 40s, is seated next to Marshall on a flight from Minnesota to New York City, where she becomes so annoyed with his behavior that it sparks a feud and, unsurprisingly, they're both escorted off the plane prior to takeoff.

There's plenty in store for the final season, but fans will just have to wait until September 23 to see how it all pans out.
