'Divergent' Movie News Update: Director Neil Burger Will Be Loyal To Original Novel

Director Neil Bruger revealed that he attempted to be loyal to Veronica Roth's novel "Divergent" with his recent film adaptation of the story.

While speaking at San Diego Comic Con, Burger explained that when he first read the script he told writers Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor that several scenes from the book had to be reinserted into the script. "I added quite a few things back from the script that was first presented to me. I was like, 'Where's the zip-line? Where's Christina being hung over the chasm?' So we worked those back in, which the movie is stuffed full of events, but they're events that we love from the book," said Burger, according to MTV.

He added, "Obviously a movie is a little bit different than a book and certain things will be changed and people will be like, 'Where's the...' but mostly we have it in."

The director also said that the movie will work and fascinate audiences. He said, "It has an incredible beginning, middle and end. There's an incredible journey Tris takes, an incredible journey society goes through-how it falls apart and goes into war. It just works."

Burger is best known for his work on the acclaimed film "The Illusionist." He also directed "Limitless" with Bradley Cooper and "The Lucky Ones" with Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena.

"Divergent" tells the story of a teenager, Tris, who seeks to break free from her homogeneous society that divides people based on human traits. She leaves her faction and joins a rival group, where she falls for an older man. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Maggie Q, Ashley Judd, and Ray Stevenson. Summit will release the first installment to the franchise on March 21, 2014.
