Although it would have been pretty awesome to see Eminem on the big screen in the interim until he drops his highly anticipated new album this year, fans will have to keep on dreaming, for now.

In a recent interview, movie director Neill Blomkamp revealed that he was originally in talks with the superstar rapper to star in the lead role for his upcoming sci-fi drama "Elysium." Blomkamp, who also wrote and directed "District 9," asked Slim Shady to act in the movie after South African hip-hop artist Ninja from Die Antwoord turned down the main role down.

According to Yahoo! News, Em was only willing to take on the acting spot if the movie could have been produced in his home town of Detroit. Because Blomkamp and TriStar Pictures were unable to bring the shoot to Michigan, he backed out, and Matt Damon finally took on the role as the movie's protagonist Max De Costa.

In a recent interview, the 40-year-old rapper explained that he was in no rush to return to Hollywood, reports HotNewHipHop.com.

"There are some things in the [works], a couple of scripts," he revealed. "I guess it's more so of just waiting now to see how they come together. Obviously it's gotta be something that I feel is dope enough to make me want to say, 'OK, let me put the mic down for a second and go do this movie.' There are some things that are in the works. I guess we'll just see how they come together."

The film's storyline is set in the year 2154 where Earth is crowded, chaotic, and disease-ridden. However, the wealthy and privileged live in the orbiting city of Elysium. Citizens of Elysium have access to health care, which is unavailable to the desperate people below on Earth. When De Costa finds he has cancer, he sets out to invade Elysium and liberate the advanced treatments for himself and those like him.
