Google Nexus 4 Update Release Date: Android 4.3 Rolling Out, Brings Minor Improvements

Good news owners of the Google-branded LG Nexus 4: there's a new version of Android in town, and it's currently rolling out for the handset.

Google announced Android Jelly Bean version 4.3 Wednesday, July 24, ending months of speculation. Android 4.3 is being pushed out for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 as of Wednesday, with Google Play editions of the Samusng Galaxy S4 and HTC One set to receive the update soon after.

Many had initially thought Google was going to unveil a complete refresh in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, but as time wore one, it became clear the search giant was holding off on an overhaul until the fall. Android 4.3 is a step forward, but a small one.

The general layout and feel of the Android Jelly Bean experience remains, but new features have been layered on top. There's more Bluetooth support in the form of Bluetooth Smart, easier text input, and OpenGL ES 3.0 will allow game developers to up the ante. There are some DRM APIs as well, which will allow for a 1080p Netflix streaming app, and for tablet owners, new user profile options make it easier for parents to create a safe Android environment for their children to utilize (a.k.a. better parental controls).

Not every Nexus 4 owner will receive Android 4.3 immediately since Android rollouts happen in batches. Google will eventually get around to everyone, but in the meantime, let us know what you think of Android 4.3, and what you hope will be included in Android 5.0 in the comments section below.
