Wayne Rooney is Chelsea's most coveted player at the moment. The latest Blues member to marvel over the Englishman is fellow forward Romelu Lukaku.
The striker told reporters that he would be excited at the prospect of playing alongside Rooney at Stamford Bridge.
"If he [Rooney] is part of our team I will welcome him with open arms," said Lukaku. "You know when you are playing for a team like Chelsea there is going to be competition. I like competition."
When asked if he would make a good striker alongside Rooney, Lukaku responded: "Obviously, but it is the manager's choice. You have to accept that you have to work hard to make it a successful squad."
Aside from Lukaku, goalie Mark Schwarzer has gone on record to endorse the potential Rooney deal.
"I think over the years Chelsea have shown a tremendous amount of ambition and that just continues now by bidding for one of the top players in English football," Schwarzer said in an interview with Sky Sports News. "The club always wants to continue to go forward and that is what is very exciting about being here. He is definitely one of the best strikers in the world without a doubt and he would be an asset to any side."
Of course, Rooney's fate lies with his current club, Manchester United. Coach David Moyes recently told reporters that his plans for Rooney included keeping him as a second striker option behind Robin Van Persie. That announcement reportedly frustrated Rooney.
"Wayne can play up on his own, he can play dropped in. Overall my thought on Wayne is, if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie, we'll need him," Moyes stated during United's preseason tour of Asia and Australia. "I want to be able to play the two of them, I want to use Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez as well. I want to give myself as many options as possible."
