Gladiators the wait is over. Production of the third season of "Scandal" has officially started, showrunner Shonda Rhimes confirmed on Twitter on Monday. The popular political drama's stars also confirmed being on set with tweets and photos.

"Today, I will be at @ScandalABC-on set and in the writers room. Tomorrow, I will be at @GreysABC," Rhimes tweeted earlier in the day. Actress Katie Lowes, who plays Quinn, tweeted, "Harrison & Huck in the HOUSE! #Scandal S3 Day 1," along with a picture of actors Columbus Short and Guillermo Diaz.

Leading lady Kerry Washington (Olivia Pope) also tweeted from the set, "Day 1. Season 3. Episode 301. #Grateful." Washington was nominated for a Primetime Emmy earlier this month for her role as the political fixer and president's mistress.

Little is known about the upcoming season but TVLine did report that fans will discover who ratted out Liv to the press. TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich reported, "I am pretty sure it's not anyone you'd guess." Could it possibly be her dad, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) who she runs into as the media is swarming her building? Or has President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) exacted revenge after she leaves him?

The premiere episode, which will air early October, is called "It's Handled" and was written by Rhimes herself. The prolific show creator shared a photo of the episode's table read earlier last week. Catch the photo below.

In other "Scandal" news, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the show will be getting two major season marathons in August on its new syndicated network BET.  According to THR, the first 14-hour marathon will be on Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the second marathon will be held August 17 at the same time. The final season two episodes will finish airing on August 21 before beginning the process again the following Wednesday.

"Scandal" returns for season 3 on Sunday, October 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
